Lady Gaga Selected To Start Ball Drop

“I’m so looking forward to performing on NYE + dropping the Ball with Mayor Bloomberg!” Gaga tweeted Thursday. “What an honor as a New Yorker!”

The “Bad Romance” songstress will be the mayor’s special guest on New Year’s Eve this Saturday for the countdown to 2012.

The singer will push the Waterford crystal button at 11:59 p.m., signaling the start of the ball drop and kicking off the final countdown.

Forbes Lists Lady Gaga At The Top-Earning Woman In Music

That title belongs to Lady Gaga, who led the pack with a staggering $90 million total boosted by strong album sales, endorsements and an extremely lucrative world tour. Gaga’s total was more than the combined earnings of No. 2 Taylor Swift ($45 million) and No. 3 Katy Perry ($44 million), both of whom also benefitted from heavy touring and popular albums.

Tony Bennett's Nude Sketch of Lady Gaga Up for Auction

Tony Bennett's nude sketch of Lady Gaga, made during an Annie Leibovitz photo shoot for Vanity Fair, is up for auction. Bennett, who is a painter as well as a singer, made the drawing at Leibovitz's urging.

The sketch is up for sale at eBay Celebrity, with proceeds to benefit the singers' foundations – Bennett's Exploring the Arts and Gaga's Born This Way. The two singers recorded a version of "The Lady Is a Tramp" for Bennett's recent Duets II album.

On her Thanksgiving TV special, Gaga joked about posing for the picture. "I walked in and said, 'Well, Tony, here we are,' and I dropped my robe and I got into position," she recalled. "I felt shy and thought, 'It's Tony Bennett. Why am I naked?"
