Lady Gaga beats Britney Spears to become top pop diva on Twitter

Lady Gaga is dominating social media networks. Last month the Grammy Award-winning singer became the first living person to reach 10 million fans on Facebook, beating out the likes of President Barack Obama.

On Saturday she defeated Britney Spears to become the top Twitter user with the most followers. She has over 5.69 million fans tuned in to her every Tweet.

Entertainers have long dominated the social networking site since back in 2009, when Ashton Kutcher famously beat CNN to be the first user to get 1 million followers. Then in May, Spears dethroned Kutcher for Twitter supremacy earning, at the time, 4.95 million followers.

The difference between the two pop stars is that, for Spears, it’s very public that she is not always the author of her status updates on her Twitter page. Sometimes her manager or other staff members Tweet for her. However, Lady Gaga often includes personal videos, backstage photos, and personal messages to her “little monsters.”

Lady Gaga commemorated her victory by Tweeting a few photos posing with the rock band KISS that read, "KISS the Queen. #GagaTwitterQueen."

There is a chance Gaga may not hold the title for long. According to The New York Daily News, Justin Bieber gains nearly 800,000 followers each month, could dethrone Gaga in six months.
