If Nicola Formichetti’s clothes weren’t attention-getting enough, his next attention-getting stunt is guaranteed to, um, get your attention. To drum up anticipation for his Mugler men’s show in Paris on Wednesday, the designer and stylist has been working on a film with director Branislav Jancic that he’ll release in pieces over the next few days. But to watch the whole thing, you’ll have to log onto XTube.
That’s because the director’s cut of the film, called Brothers of Arcadia is too racy for YouTube. Or Vimeo. Or any other online video platform that has rules about what locations on the human body should or should not be seen. Of course, the teaser images Formichetti has posted to his Tumblr and Facebook pages show plenty of skin — they also seem vaguely inspired by Greek mythology (if you’ll remember 8th grade world history, Arcadia is a sort of pastoral Greek utopia) and feature some buff guys wearing dog collars and leashes. Standard stuff.
According a press release from Mugler, Formichetti will release a teaser video today, followed by Part 1 on Tuesday and Part 2 on Wednesday, the day of the show. On Thursday, the director’s cut will go up on XTube. The singer Nomi Ruiz of Jessica 6 will star in the video, and her band will provide an exclusive remix for the show in Paris on Wednesday.
