Lady Gaga on Forbes Most Powerful Women List

Forbes

Lady Gaga wears the crown of FORBES 2011 Most Powerful Celebrity, and it's a title she's made good on both in dollar signs and massive constituency. She raked in $90 over the past year. In July, Gaga (born Stefanie Germanotta) became the first Twitter user to reach 12 million followers, trumping teen dream Justin Bieber and President Obama. Her Facebook page has 36 million fans. Beyonce has called her "the most talented pop star." In the past three months she has begun promotional deals with Google, Zynga and Gilt and is a not-so-silent financial backer in Backplane, a Silicon Valley start-up founded by her longtime manager Troy Carter. The sales of Gaga-endorsed MAC's VIVA GLAM Lipstick and Lipgloss have raised more than $202 million to fight HIV and AIDS.

Lady Gaga to Join Forces With Love, Loss and What I Wore Star Yeardley Smith on The Simpsons

By Michael Mellini - Broadway.com

Grammy winner Lady Gaga is heading to Springfield for a guest gig on TV's The Simpsons, the show's star Yeardley Smith told Broadway.com. Smith (who voices Lisa Simpson and currently appears in off-Broadway's Love, Loss and What I Wore) is returning to Los Angeles on August 22, her day off from the play, to record the episode with the singer.

"This is extraordinary! I'm stunned that she has time in her schedule that she's coming to our studio to record," Smith said. Previewing Gaga's storyline, the actress said, "She's playing herself, and [The Simpsons writers] describe her as the happiest, most optimistic person in the world. She comes to Springfield to try to cheer up Lisa, but she can't."

Lady Gaga's appearance will air during the animated hit's upcoming 23rd season. In a previous episode, an animated version of the "Bad Romance" singer (not voiced by Gaga) appeared on the show as Tony winner Elton John's date to the Golden Globe Awards.

Smith should have plenty of conversational fodder, given Gaga's love of Broadway, Smith's current fashion-centric off-Broadway role and her plans to launch a shoe line. "I can't wait to see what she wears!" the actress exclaimed.

Catch Yeardley Smith in Love, Loss and What I Wore at the Westside Theatre, and check back on Broadway.com on August 26 for a full interview with The Simpsons star.

Lady Gaga’s Little Sister’s Fashion Design Career Is Rolling Along Nicely

By: Amy Odell - NYMag

Natali Germanotta is the 19-year-old sibling to mammoth pop star Lady Gaga. She made a cameo in her big sister's "Telephone" video, and was her date to the CFDA Awards, where Lady Gaga told the crowd while accepting her Fashion Icon prize that Natali had just started at Parsons. (Imagine the admissions officers getting that application.) Considering she shares parents with the fashion industry's favorite person (outside of Kate Middleton or Michelle Obama, that is), how could she not have a rollicking, boldface career in fashion? She's off to a heady start, reports WWD, already in the running to design costumes for the show Simon Says, which opens off-Broadway in New York this fall.

But what is Natali "Baby Gaga" really like? Is the dark lipstick and goth look a gimmick imposed by "Grown-up Gaga" or is it coming from her heart?
As a Convent of the Sacred Heart high school student, she interned for Allison Parris and pitched in backstage at the designer’s fall 2010 show.
...Parris said of her former intern, “Natali has an edgier sense of style like her sister. Initially when she went to the Grammys a few years ago, she wore one of our little lace trapeze dresses, but she styled it up with leather and hardware. She is so nice and so easy to work with. She is such a great girl.”
So she's black lipstick and razor-blade shades to the core, perhaps. No photos of her wearing Abercrombie in high school have surfaced, at least.

Tony Bennett Expects Lady Gaga to Be 'As Big as Elvis'

by Gary Graff - Billboard

... As he prepares for the Sept. 20 release of his "Duets II" album, Tony Bennett promises "this will be the last one." But didn't he say that when he released the original "Duets: An American Classic" in 2006? "Well, I had no idea the first one was going to be that big," Bennett tells Billboard.com. ...

...Bennett acknowledges that the Lady Gaga duet on "The Lady is a Tramp" also seems out of left field but proclaims that "I never met a more talented person in my life... I think she's going to become as big as Elvis Presley." ...

Gaga's Workshop at Barneys New York

Barneys New York announces today its Holiday 2011 campaign: GAGA’S WORKSHOP. A unique collaboration between Lady Gaga and renowned creative talents of artists Eli Sudbrack and Christophe Hamaide Pierson of Assume Vivid Astro Focus (AVAF), and Mugler Creative Director and Lady Gaga Fashion Director, Nicola Formichetti, to create Lady Gaga’s interpretation of the iconic Santa’s Workshop.

For the first time ever, Barneys New York will convert an entire floor of its Madison Avenue flagship for the holiday initiative. Starting in mid-November, GAGA’S WORKSHOP will be brought to life throughout the fifth floor of the Men’s Store and the store’s iconic Madison Avenue windows.
Working with the Barneys New York team under the direction of Creative Director, Dennis Freedman, AVAF has designed the signature artwork for GAGA’S WORKSHOP, shown here exclusively on The Window for the first time, which will also be featured on special holiday shopping bags and packaging. Known for their visually spectacular and multimedia installations, AVAF’s work will be seen throughout GAGA’S WORKSHOP in the Madison Avenue flagship store and windows, as well as through the various materials and products.

Barneys New York has also worked closely with Lady Gaga under the creative direction of Nicola Formichetti to design a range of exclusive, small gift items, which will be available for a limited time only at GAGA’S WORKSHOP. In addition to GAGA’S WORKSHOP in New York, a selection of items from the collection will also be available at Barneys New York locations nationwide and online at Barneys.com.

Barneys New York will donate 25% of sales from all items featured in GAGA’S WORKSHOP to a charity of Lady Gaga’s choice in honor of this special program and in the spirit of the holiday season.
“Lady Gaga is a rare cultural phenomenon, not only because of her exceptional talents as a singer, songwriter and performer, but also with regard to her support of equality and individuality and status as a fashion icon,” said Mark Lee, Barneys New York CEO. “Partnering with her in this unprecedented collaborative way to create the largest and most all-encompassing holiday theme that Barneys has ever mounted is a thrill. As a New York City landmark, we wanted to celebrate Lady Gaga as a fellow New Yorker and amazing talent.”

Lady Gaga's grandmother shares all about her superstar granddaughter

Lady Gaga's biggest fan is also part of the family! Gaga's 80-year-old grandmother, Angelin Germanotta chats with Life & Style about her granddaughter's music, risqué wardrobe and the real woman behind the wild image!

"I listen to her songs," Angelin gushes to Life & Style. "I love her music."

Surprisingly, she also approves of Gaga's off-beat fashion choices! "I'm blind, so I really don't see all those sexy outfits," admits Angelin, adding that the "Born This Way" singer wears hot pants and microminis in honor of her! "I can only see her legs when she's on TV, so it's good that she wears those outfits, so I can spot her."

Gaga says with a smile, "I'll continue to wear no pants...so that my grandma can see me."

But Grandma Gaga blows the lid off the singer's wild rocker image: "She wears jeans and just ordinary clothes with the family," she shares. "She was a straight-A student, did all of her homework and went to Mass!"

Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber Ready to "Friend" Africa

by   / E! Online
A ton of celebs are using the power of social networking to draw attention to a very worthy cause.
Folks like Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber, U2, Eminem, Rihanna, the Rolling Stones, Jay-Z, Kanye West, Britney Spears and Beyoncé are among the over 150 famous faces who are taking part in the "I'm Gonna Be Your Friend" campaign that launched today. The goal is to raise both awareness and money on behalf of Save the Children's efforts to help the more than 10 million people in East Africa often deprived of food, water and medicine due to "the worst drought in decades."
All the stars involved have promised to promote a short film about the crisis, which was created by King of Scotland director Kevin McDonald and is set to the Bob Marley & The Wailers tune "High Tide or Low Tide," on their respective Facebook and Twitter accounts with the hope that they can encourage fans to lend a hand.

Both the video above and the song that accompanies it can be downloaded through iTunes, from www.imgonnabeyourfriend.org or www.facebook.com/bobmarley, with all proceeds going to Save the Children.

Lady Gaga: The Popdust Interview

Posted by / Pop Dust
Lady Gaga rang Popdust from her record label’s headquarters during yet another wave of promotion for her latest album, Born This Way. The world’s biggest pop star had been dutifully gabbing with media types all afternoon—she yucked it up with radio jocks in Omaha before this interview and with god-knows-who afterwards—and it spoke to her cheerful lust for fame and heroic devotion to show business that she threw herself into our conversation as if Oprah Fucking Winfrey were asking the questions. When she squealed her delight in being named the top star in the Popdust 40, the thought occurred that she might be as good an actor as she is a musical artist. Which is exactly the sort of snoozy dichotomy—art or commerce? pop or rock? meat or dress?–that Gaga seeks to obliterate. Stefani Germanotta is so fully committed to playing the part of Lady Gaga that she’s beyond fake. Podpust can pay no greater compliment.

Lady Gaga Tweets "You & I" Single Cover

Lady Gaga’s Secret MTV Shoot

Lady Gaga Shares New Details about "You and I" Music Video

Lady Gaga has been mostly tight-lipped about the premise of her upcoming music video for her single “You and I,” but she shared details on Monday with ABC News Radio.

“I don’t want to give too much away,” Gaga, who recently shot the video in Nebraska, told ABC’s David Blaustein. “But it does take place in Nebraska, and I’m walking all the way from New York City to find this guy, and as I’m walking my feet start to bleed and I begin to get very tired, and all these strange things start to happen in a cornfield in the middle of nowhere.”

When told the song could become an anthem for the state of Nebraska, she replied cryptically, “Oh, yes, and perhaps for some others. You’ll see.”
[LISTEN TO LADY GAGA'S INTERVIEW WITH ABC'S DAVID BLAUSTEIN]

“You and I” was inspired by Gaga’s reported boyfriend, Luc Carl, who hails from Nebraska. But she’s hoping that her fans can connect with the song in their own personal way.

“It’s meant to be interpreted in as many ways as you can interpret it and I intend, through the visuals, as I always do, to elevate what the song began being about and start to morph and change it into something otherworldly and surreal,” she said.

Gaga performed “You and I” on ABC’s The View on Monday while wearing a houndstooth-patterned outfit that matched her piano. She says she borrowed the idea for the outfit from an ad she once saw.

“I obviously go a bit overboard,” she said.

Lady Gaga Nominated in New VMA Category:

Voting for the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards is under way, and MTV has announced yet another reason to raise our glass to the year's best music videos with the first-ever "Best Video With a Message" category.
The special category, in conjunction with MTV Act, celebrates the union between music and social activism, and highlights artists who created music videos that made us think about the world around us. These artists could have just made party songs, but instead they also took a stand against bullying, fought for LGBT rights and reminded us why we're all special. You've watched the videos on repeat, sang the songs in the shower and turned them into rally cries.

Take action and vote for "Best Video with a Message" through Aug. 16, below.

Lady Gaga: Straight, No Chaser

We observe Gaga in her natural habitat, with a good bottle of whiskey, in Bigger Than the Sound.
By James Montgomery (@)  MTV News

..."Drinking wasn't the only thing she did, of course. She also danced, vamped, sang, bled and underwent more costume changes than Evander Berry Wall — all over the span of one very long day on one very big soundstage in New York City. I'm not allowed to write about exactly what she was shooting (at least not yet), but suffice it to say, Gaga certainly deserved a few minutes of rest. Especially since she had spent the first part of the day filming a wearing an outfit that could only be described as "houndstooth overdrive....."

NICOLA FORMICHETTI TO DESIGN OWN LINE

By Lucinda Rose Constable, Pages Digital
Nicola Formichetti has always been a major player in the fashion industry, well as long as I have been around for, but it seems he is coming out of the woodworks much more recently. He was always known for his work at Dazed & Confused and Vogue Hommes International, but it was through his close quarters with Lady Gaga that truly catapulted him into the world of celebrity. Now Formichetti is a star in his own right, only cemented by all the blog craziness surrounding him. Last year he was named the Creative Director of Mugler, which is a huge coup for someone with no design background.

His debut show for the French house was generally a success and lived up to the hype. Now Formichetti has stated that by this time next year he will have a line of his own, supposedly a namesake label. It will more than likely be a massive hit, well you would hope so with Lady Gaga as your number one fan. In a time where most ‘designers’ are actually glorified stylists, at least Formichetti has a well rounded and informed opinion on the world of high fashion.
