Lady Gaga and Giorgio Armani: Fashion's new Odd Couple?

In what has to be the most unlikely pairing in fashion history, the over-the-top and often outlandish Lady Gaga and Giorgio Armani, the designer known for his classic, elegant understated clothes, have officially hooked up.

Even though they haven't yet formally met, the two icons have signed a multimillion dollar partnership, details of which remains murky, other than for plans for him to design outfits for her next tour.

Armani has already designed spectacular outfits for Gaga to wear to "American Idol," to the Grammys, in her music video for "Alejandro" and to the MTV Video Music Awards. But no, he didn't do her raw meat dress.

According to the Wall Street Journal. Roberta Armani, Giorgio's niece, explains the Gaga appeal: "A huge company like Giorgio Armani has the duty to always be alert to trends and what appeals to young people. It helped to see how the world is through Lady Gaga, the way she uses Facebook and Twitter."

Ahah. So it's her marketing skills and powerful social media reach Armani admires and envies. Well, don't we all? Sounds like Armani is trying to get hip (and relevant) quick.

Will Gaga's Little Monsters buy Armani if she wears his creations? And is there a Gaga/Armani fragrance in the works? Her fans -- including us -- would definitely buy that.

Lady Gaga’s Ex Settles His $30 Million Suit Against Her; Now He Gets Sued

By our estimate, Lady Gaga made $62 million this year. Now, everyone who helped launch her is looking to cash in on her success. And that means lawsuits….lots of them.

Just last month, her former boyfriend and producer Rob Fusari settled his $30 million lawsuit against the superstar. Now, the singer songwriter Wendy Starland who says she introduced Fusari to the future Lady Gaga, is seeking to get her share.

Starland filed suit on Friday in Newark Federal Court claiming that in 2005, Fusari asked her to find a “unique female singer, under the age of 25, who could be the female equivalent of the lead singer of the band The Strokes.” Starland says Fusari promised her that “if she could find and introduce him to such a singer, they would work together to develop the singer and share equally in any revenues earned as a result.” Starland says she agreed to those terms — and discovered the unique singer that Fusari was after, Stefani Germanotta, eight months later at a performance at The Cutting Room in New York City. Starland claims she introduced Germanotta to Fusari pursuant to their oral agreement and collaborated on songs, Germanotta’s musical style and her artistic development. But in May 2006, when Fusari entered into an agreement to pursue a record contract for Germanotta, Starland says she was cut out of the deal. After Germanotta signed a record contract with a major label, Starland says she again asked Fusari if he would share any revenues he received from his relationship with the star. She says Fusari agreed to do so but never did. She claims she hasn’t received any compensation from Fusari for her efforts in helping to discover Lady Gaga. She’s suing him and his company for breach of contract, breach of fiduciary duty, unjust enrichment and quantum meruit.

So far, Fusari has yet to comment on her allegations.

Lady Gaga To Buy Castle

Lady Gaga is reported to be keen on purchasing a British castle to live in when she winds up her 'Monster Ball Tour' in 2011.

Lady Gaga wants to buy a British castle.

The eccentric singer is believed to have fallen in love with the country - having previously professed a love for traditional UK dish fish and chips and British musicians - and is keen to follow in Madonna's footsteps by purchasing an estate in the UK countryside.

A friend told the Daily Record newspaper: "No expense will be spared in her quest to make this dream come true.

"It's her childhood dream and she's particularly interested in castles in the north of England or Scotland."

It was reported this week the 'Alejandro' hitmaker was looking to purchase a property on the exclusive island of Martha's Vineyard, off the coast of Massachusetts, US, ready for when her 'Monster Ball Tour' - which has been running since 2009 - wraps up in 2011.

However, the New Yorker could bag herself a bargain if she were to buy in Scotland, where real estate agent Matthew Sinclair has revealed many properties are overpriced.

He said: "The average time a property is on the market is eight months. That tells us much of the property is overpriced.

"The country house market seems completely static. Some prices being asked are what they would have sold for at the peak of the market."

Lady Gaga Is Last.fm's Most Unwanted Artist (Oh, no!)

File under "bad romance": Lady Gaga has topped Last.fm's latest "Most Unwanted Scrobbles" list, meaning her tracks--including megahits "Poker Face" and "Paparazzi"--were most frequently deleted from user playlists last month. Is this the beginning of the end for Fast Company's Most Creative Person in Business?

Not quite. For one, in order to become Last.fm's most unwanted artist, Gaga had to be pretty in-demand in the first place. Indeed, she touts more than 1.8 million fans on the site, and her songs have logged some 85 million plays. Tack on the 6.5 million Twitter followers and 19 million Facebook "likes," and she's still got plenty of die-hard "little monsters."

But Gaga's ubiquity is clearly grating on more casual fans. For the last two years, the Lady has been everywhere: awards shows, gay-rights rallies, magazine covers, stadiums, YouTube, etc. She consistently makes headlines for wearing outrageous outfits--a meat dress here, a spiky scepter there--and spouting soundbites such as, "I can mentally give myself orgasms."

This is not how we typically deal with pop stars. As Gawker's Brian Moylan observes in post titled "It's Time for Lady Gaga to Go Away":

We're used to a world where musical acts dream up a look and a sound for an album, come out and do a bunch of performances and interviews, release the album, go on tour, and then hibernate for six months to a year (and often longer). After taking time off, they reemerge with another new look and sound, and it's like we're discovering them all over again.

For all her exposure, Gaga has only released one album and one EP, so it's no wonder her songs are played-out. We pop fans loved them--a lot--but we're sick of hearing them in elevators and on hold with the cable company. So Gaga, if you're reading this (ha), start singing something fresh. You're just a few new hits away from topping next September's Most Unwanted list.

Lady Gaga's grandfather dies at 88

Lady Gaga's grandfather has died at the age of 88, two days after she had visited him.

World War II veteran Joseph Germanotta died on Friday at a nursing home in Lincoln Park, New Jersey.

The hitmaker was comforted by rumoured boyfriend Luc Carl on Saturday where she was seen in New York looking downbeat, but still in an eccentric leotard and leather jacket.

Lady Gaga - real name Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta - has previously spoken about her love for her grandfather, dedicating the song Speechless to him at a concert in Nottingham, England.

Speaking at the gig in May, she said: "I don't always talk about my personal life but my grandpa's sick.

"I'm really close with my grandpa and he's really sick and he's in the States and my dad's with him.

"So I was, like, crying all day, really sad. So I thought I would be honest and tell you that's what's going on.

"So it's been one of those tough things that my grandpa's too old to come to my show, but I suppose if we sing loud enough, he'll be able to hear us. So this one's for you grandpa."

Joseph is survived by his wife of 57-years Angelina, and son Joseph.

The family have asked for donations to be made to the Michael J Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research instead of sending flowers.

Message from Lady Gaga

Today was an enormous DISAPPOINTMENT, for myself, and for many young American people. Not only because Don't Ask Don't Tell was not repealed by our Senators, but moreover because LEGISLATIVE PROCEDURE is being abused to stop public business, public debates, from happening while America is watching. There was a debate today, we just didn't get to watch it. Instead, it has been customary now for antiquated procedures and partisan politics to take precedence over debate, America's needs, and today, sadly, over the needs of US troops. I will keep fighting, I will not give up. I am passionate about the rights of the LGBT Community and SLDN and I will continue to activate as many young people as I can, and encourage them to get politically involved in their future.

Republicans block bill to lift military gay ban

Senate Republicans on Tuesday blocked legislation that would have repealed the law banning gays from serving openly in the military. The partisan vote was a defeat for Senate Democrats and gay rights advocates, who saw the bill as their last chance before November's elections to overturn the law known as "don't ask, don't tell."

With the 56-43 vote, Democrats fell short of the 60 votes needed to advance the legislation. It also would have authorized $726 billion in defense spending including a pay raise for troops.

Senate Democrats attached the repeal provision to the defense bill in the hopes that Republicans would hesitate to vote against legislation that included popular defense programs. But GOP legislators opposed the bill anyway, thwarting a key part of the Democrats' legislative agenda.

Now, gay rights advocates say they worry they have lost a crucial opportunity to change the law. If Democrats lose seats in the upcoming elections this fall, repealing the ban could prove even more difficult — if not impossible — next year.

"The whole thing is a political train wreck," said Richard Socarides, a former White House adviser on gay rights during the Clinton administration.

Socarides said President Barack Obama "badly miscalculated" the Pentagon's support for repeal, while Democrats made only a "token effort" to advance the bill.

"If it was a priority for the Democratic leadership, they would get a clean vote on this," he said.

Democratic Sens. Blanche Lincoln and Mark Pryor of Arkansas sided with Republicans to block the bill. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., also voted against the measure as a procedural tactic. Under Senate rules, casting his vote with the majority of the Senate enables him to revive the bill at a later date if he wants.

Republican Sen. Susan Collins of Maine had been seen as the crucial 60th vote because she supports overturning the military ban. But Collins agreed with her GOP colleagues that Republicans weren't given sufficient chance to offer amendments.

Reid allowed Republicans the opportunity to offer only one amendment to address GOP objections on the military's policy on gays.

Collins said she planned to vote against advancing the bill unless Democrats agreed to extend debate so that her colleagues could weigh in on other issues.

Jim Manley, a spokesman for Reid, said the senator would be willing to allow more debate on the bill after the November elections.

"Today's vote isn't about arcane Senate procedures," Manley said. "It's about a GOP's pattern of obstructing debate on policies important to the American people."

An estimated 13,000 people have been discharged under the law since its inception in 1993. Although most dismissals have resulted from gay service members outing themselves, gay rights' groups say it has been used by vindictive co-workers to drum out troops who never made their sexuality an issue.

John McCain of the National Defense Authorizations Act, to which repeal is included. The key U.S. Senate vote is scheduled for 2:15pm on Tuesday.

Lady Gaga: 'New album is rock crossover'

Lady GaGa hopes her new album will be a rock crossover record that will "reach the masses".

The singer, who recently debuted a song on tour called 'You and I' from the widely-anticipated LP, said the track doesn't reflect the sound of the whole record, but hopes it will have widespread appeal.

"I wrote the song just to write a beautiful song and I intend to put it on the new album, yes," GaGa told RWD.

"But it's not totally indicative of the new album sound; it's just a really big rock and roll hit. I do have these hopes that it could be a great crossover record, so I'm going to put my producer's hat on and get it to a place where I feel like it could reach the masses.

"It's a beautiful, beautiful lyric and melody."

GaGa also discussed her longevity in the music industry, claiming her 'Monster Ball' tour has become a "religion" for her fans.

"I think that I'm, in the best kind of way, as irrelevant as I am relevant and it's the timing of when the music came and when the show came. Also, the thing is, the show has become a religion for me and my fans.

"In that way it's about so much more than the music, the clothes or me. It's about the togetherness of music and culture."

GaGa's new album, Born This Way, is slated for release next year.

Nicola Formichetti Appointed Creative Director Of Thierry Mugler

Paris-based fashion house Thierry Mugler has tapped Lady Gaga's stylist, Nicola Formichetti, as creative director for its women's and menswear labels.

The label said in a statement Monday that Formichetti, who is also fashion director with Vogue Hommes Japan, is to begin with the fall-winter 2011-2012 collections.

Formichetti, a half-Japanese, half-Italian 33-year-old, replaces Spaniard Rosemary Rodriguez.

Formichetti will oversee Mugler's head women's designer Sebastien Peigne, formerly of Balenciaga, and head menswear designer Romain Kremer, who also designs his own signature label.

"We were looking for a young talent who could really bring new energy to the brand," the statement quoted the brand's director general, Joel Palix, as saying.

Lady Gaga & Pixie Lott Break Pop Records

LADY GAGA and PIXIE LOTT have new accolades to add to their lists - the pair has made its debut in the latest Guinness World Records book.

The Poker Face superstar has enjoyed a stellar rise to fame, and she's smashed all previous achievements by staying in the U.K. chart for a staggering 154 weeks.

Lott also made her first appearance in the series of books - her single Boys And Girls made the biggest chart leap in history, jumping from 72 to number one in just seven days.

Editor-in-chief Craig Glenday says, "Almost two years ago, Lady Gaga and Pixie Lott were not even around so it's amazing they have broken these records. Every year, so many new music records are broken."

Lady Gaga to appear on CSI?

The 23-year-old pop star is said to be a huge fan of the fictional crime investigation show that follows forensic detectives as they try to solve crimes. Eva La Rue, who stars in the series, has now claimed the outrageous singer has contacted network bosses to enquire about appearing in CSI, and Eva hopes they agree a deal.

"The rumour's been that Lady Gaga wants to do the show really bad," Eva told E! Online earlier this week. "I don't know if we're going to get her or not, but it would be awesome!"

Eva says Gaga is not interested in a cameo, which would see her playing herself. The star would reportedly prefer to play a character, but it is not known if she wants to be a victim or a perpetrator.

"She doesn't want to play herself from what I understand," Eva said. "She wants to be a character."

Lady Gaga Lands Fragrance Deal

LADY GAGA is set to smell the sweet scent of success - she's launching her own fragrance line.

Rumours that the Poker Face hitmaker was partnering with cosmetic giant Coty for her own perfume were brushed off earlier this year (10), but now bosses have officially announced the collaboration.

Gaga's first scent is expected to hit shelves in 2012, Coty's senior vice president Stephen Mormoris tells fashion website WWD.com.

The singer will be the latest in a string of pop stars to have her own fragrance - Britney Spears, Beyonce and Kylie Minogue have all released perfumes.

Lady Gaga's meat dress link to the Beatles

As long ago as 1966, the Beatles released the album Yesterday and Today which was first printed with a controversial cover featuring the band dressed as butchers and draped in joints of meat and decapitated baby dolls.

The Beatles' 'Yesterday and Today' album cover and Lady Gaga at the MTV Video Music
The image, although apparently not originally intended as an album cover, was said to reflect the group’s feelings on the Vietnam War.

Advance copies created such a backlash that the record label’s management ordered the “meat” versions destroyed, however, many survived and are now collectors’ items.

In 1983, the punk group the Undertones released a singles compilation titled All Wrapped Up with a female model covered in meat – chiefly rashers of fatty bacon held to her with what looks like Clingfilm.

A few years later, in 1988, the rock group B.A.L.L., fronted by US musician Don Fleming, released a pastiche of the short-lived Beatles cover with their album Bird.

However, the use of meat to promote music has remained controversial.

Ingrid Newkirk, the president of animal rights campaign group PETA, said: “Lady Gaga’s job is to do outlandish things, and this certainly qualifies as outlandish because meat is something you want to avoid putting on or in your body.

“No matter how beautifully it is presented, flesh from a tortured animal is flesh from a tortured animal.”

A spokeswoman for the Vegetarian Society said: “It just seems totally unnecessary.

“Enough animals die for food and they should not be killed for stunts like this.”

Lady Gaga Protests Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell

Lady Gaga, the pop icon known for eccentric costumes and hits such as “Bad Romance,” turned her website, http://www.ladygaga.com/ , into a billboard for the repeal of “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell” today

The splash page asks fans to “Join Lady Gaga in repealing Don’t Ask Don’t Tell,” the policy banning gays from serving openly in the military, and redirects users to the website for the Servicemembers Legal Defense Network, which provides legal services to gay service members. Lady Gaga, a longtime gay-rights advocate, showed up at Sunday’s MTV Video Music Awards with a feathered Mohawk and members of the military affected by the policy, all clients of SLDN.

An SLDN spokesman said he did not know how long the singer’s site would redirect fans to the gay rights group, but the organization had prepared for 1 million extra page views Monday morning channeled through Lady Gaga’s site.

Lady Gaga, for her part, picked up eight awards Sunday night, including best video for “Bad Romance.”

Lady Gaga: I Meant "No Disrespect" Wearing Meat Dress to VMAs

Is Lady Gaga getting a raw deal after donning a meat-inspired dress at Sunday's VMAs in L.A.?

The singer's beefy ensemble (designed by Franc Fernandez) outraged PETA, who complained that the singer "tried once again to shock the world."

"Lately, Lady Gaga has been having a hard time keeping her act 'over the top,'" PETA president Ingrid E. Newkirk writes. "Wearing a dress made out cuts of dead cows is offensive enough to bring comment, but someone should whisper in her ear that there are more people who are upset by butchery than who are impressed by it."

Newkirk adds, "Meat is the decomposing flesh of a tormented animal who didn't want to die, and after a few hours under the TV lights, it would smell like the rotting flesh it is and likely be crawling in maggots -- not too attractive, really."

But the 24-year-old singer says she didn't intend for her outfit to cause any controversy -- and she's apologizing to fans who may have been offended.

"Well, it is certainly no disrespect to anyone that is vegan or vegetarian. As you know, I am the most judgment free human being on the earth," Gaga told Ellen DeGeneres Sunday night after the VMAs. "However, it has many interpretations, but for me this evening, if we don't stand up for what we believe in and if we don't fight for our rights, pretty soon we're going to have as much rights as the meat on our bones. And, I am not a piece of meat."

Lady Gaga, Producer Withdraw Dueling NY Lawsuits

They may have had a bad romance, but now there's a cordial professional split between Lady Gaga and a music producer who said she ditched him as both a collaborator and a boyfriend after he helped launch her career.

Court papers filed this week show the Grammy Award-winning "Bad Romance" singer and songwriter-producer Rob Fusari agreed to dismiss the lawsuits each filed against the other in March in a Manhattan court.

He'd sought $30.5 million, but it's unclear whether they made any monetary deal.

"Lady Gaga and Rob Fusari have agreed to end their dispute amicably and wish each other well. There will be no further comment by either of them," the singer's camp said in a statement. A lawyer for Fusari didn't immediately respond to phone and e-mail messages Friday.

Fusari had said the pop-meets-performance-art sensation shoehorned him out of her lucrative career after he co-wrote such Gaga hits as "Paparazzi" and "Beautiful, Dirty, Rich," came up with her stage name and helped get her record deal.

Fusari — who has a producing credit on Lady Gaga's 2008 debut album, "The Fame" — met the singer two years before when she was still Stefani Germanotta, according to his lawsuit. He has a studio in Parsippany, N.J.

He said they forged both a romantic and a business relationship, both soured, and he was denied money their contract had entitled him to, including a 20 percent share of her song royalties. He said he'd gotten about $611,000 but was due far more.

"All business is personal," his lawsuit said. "When those personal relationships evolve into romantic entanglements, any corresponding business relationship usually follows the same trajectory so that when one crashes they all burn. That is what happened here."

Lady Gaga's lawyers had said Fusari was just an agent for her and got the then-inexperienced singer to sign an unfair agreement in 2006. Her lawsuit asked a court to void the "unlawful arrangement," or at least declare that Fusari wasn't owed what he claimed.

Lady Gaga Meets with SLDN Clients Impacted by DADT, Speaks Out on Repeal at “Monster Ball Tour”

On Tuesday night Lady Gaga pitched the need for DADT repeal before performing in the “Monster Ball Tour” at the Verizon Center in Washington, D.C.

Gaga met with former service members and SLDN clients David Hall, former Air Force Staff Sergeant fired under DADT; Danny Hernandez, former Marine Lance Corporal who was also fired under DADT; Katie Miller, a top West Point cadet who resigned in August to protest the discriminatory law; and Stacy Vasquez, former Army Sergeant, First Class, who was fired under DADT.

“Lady Gaga’s recognition of these fine patriots casts a spotlight on the unjust burden that ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’ imposes upon the brave men and women who defend our country every day, and further underscores why the Senate must swiftly act to get rid of this despicable law for good,” said Aubrey Sarvis, executive director of Servicemembers Legal Defense Network. “With expected votes on the Senate floor later this month, advocates of open service still have time to contact both their senators and urge them to show support for all our veterans by voting to end DADT.”

Today SLDN issued a national action alert urging members and supporters to call both their senators and Joint Senate Leadership and urge them to schedule a vote for repeal of DADT the week of September 20.

Lady Gaga's Yoga Session Goes Viral / And New Tatto

Lady Gaga sets the internet abuzz even when she is just doing yoga.

The "Telephone" singer took in a yoga class at the Bikram Yoga Capitol Hill yoga studio in Washington D.C. on Wednesday afternoon. Unbeknownst to Gaga, she went to the yoga studio owned by blogger Liz Glover who writes for funny political blog Wonkette. Soon the blogs began a-bloggin' with news of the famous superstar at a blogger's yoga studio.

While at the studio, the 24-year-old musician reportedly wore a lingerie ensemble and her now trademark slicked-back platinum blonde hair. Gaga graciously posed for photos with a yoga teacher's young daughter (pictured) but she remained relatively low profile while at the studio.

As for having an international superstar in her yoga studio, Liz told the Washington Post that "everyone's the same in the yoga room."

Lady Gaga went to the yoga class the day after performing a sold-out show in the Capitol. Gaga is gearing up for her appearance at the VMAs this Sunday.

In concert: Lady Gaga at Verizon Center

The most commanding moment in Lady Gaga’s riveting Tuesday night concert at Verizon Center had nothing to do with the arsenal of angular, asymmetrical frocks that aggrandized the superstar’s teeny-tiny frame.

It came during the crescendo of “Telephone” when she ordered her fans -- she affectionately calls them "little monsters" -- to tuck their camera phones back into their Levi’s and get in the moment.

It was a retina-searing spectacle -- a two-hour pop bacchanal that utilized buckets of fake blood, spark-spewing bustiers, head-banging harpists, a flaming piano and plenty of esteem-building speechifying. Lady Gaga didn’t bring her “Monster Ball” tour to Washington to be reduced to a snapshot.

She aspired to be that encouraging little voice stuck in your head, and carpetbombed her set with numerous micro-sermons about empowerment and acceptance. (As if singing the songs that have been stuck in our head for the past three years wasn’t already enough.)

“Don’t leave loving me more,” she urged the capacity crowd, hundreds of whom came dressed as their idol. “Leave loving yourself more.”

Having already altered the definition of pop stardom, the 24-year-old is apparently taking a crack at the definition of feel-good music, too. Her genius lies in buttressing those euphoric, big-tent pop songs with a hyper-eccentric, outsiderish sense of style. At a Lady Gaga concert, the misfits and the masses somehow become synonymous.

“I want to be a Washington D.C. star,” Gaga declared before “The Fame,” and without mentioning the words “cupcake” or “Salahi,” she sauntered across the stage, evoking an entire constellation of pop stars that came before her. As her ambition grows, her Madonna-debt shrinks, but onstage at Verizon, she also managed to summon Grace Jones’s aggression, Annie Lennox’s steeliness and Prince’s superhuman ability to dance for two hours in stiletto heels.

Amid the touchy-feely blither-blather (“I want you to let go of all of your insecurities... You’re a superstar!”), there were touchier-feelier moments in a more literal sense. At times, Gaga grabbed anything within arm’s reach: her crotch, her back-up dancers’ crotches, a light-spangled sorcerer’s staff, a giant keytar shaped like a mutant honeycomb.

She played the latter during a lumbering version of “Money Honey,” proving that her better songs warranted even better outfits. (For this lurching tune, her black plastic get-up appeared to have had metastasized out of an old Missy Elliott video.) For the pulsating “Love Game,” she posed as a nun in a latex habit and sang of having her tush “squeezed by sexy cupid.” For “So Happy I Could Die,” she donned a winged fairy’s dress made of cellophane. Each garment looked wildly imaginative and rather uncomfortable.

But she wore next to nothing during “Speechless” -- and proved anything but. Seated behind a grand piano that belched flames from its soundboard, Gaga frequently digressed to lash out at discrimination the U.S. military’s don’t-ask, don’t-tell policy and discrimination against the gay community writ large. “I’m not going to prance around in underwear and a bra and not stand for something,” she quipped. And for fans who didn’t agree with her politics, she offered a consolation: “At least I sing live at this show.”

So sing she did, into a homestretch-turned-hit-parade that included ubiquitous singles “Alejandro,” “Poker Face,” “Paparazzi” and “Bad Romance.” Each felt bigger than the tune that preceded it — and between songs, her breathing sounded like an obscene phone call.

It was Lady Gaga huffing and puffing into her headset microphone, sucking oxygen and reminding her flock that the icon behind these marvelous muumuus and smears of fake blood wasn’t some abstract spectacle, but an actual living, panting human being. Cooler than Darth Vader, and with better capes.

New Lady Gaga Tatto?

I just came back from seeing Lady Gaga perform in Washington, DC. It was an amazing show.

I think @badnewsbecca put a tattoo on the left leg below the hip. You be the judge. Click on the pictures:
